in the course of my day everything happens
I swing all the way from heartache to happy
I never really know what's around the corner
best I can do some days is just ignore it

every screen I see is just spewing static
the talking heads they want me to panic
today's not the day to give in to the masses
and I'm of the mind that my only choice is:

I make my own way and make it my own
the beaten path isn't always the best way to go
there's a road ahead of me, and sometimes it's tough to see, but
every day- I'm sneaking up on where I want to be

There are too many people in a day to deal with
every one's talking and everyone's got an opinion
too much talk on the radio
too many calls on my telephone

nobody said it was going to be easy
nobody offered up a free ride
but nobody's got the power to stop me
as long as I stay true to what's inside

I make my own way and make it my own
the beaten path isn't always the best way to go
there's a road ahead of me, and sometimes it's tough to see, but
every day- I'm sneaking up on where I want to be

like that bird bird right outside my window
sings his song and can't be discouraged
would that I was blessed with that certainty
I can't say I'm a man without doubt
but I'm not going to let it push my dreams out
I know the way is up to me
